In the shadow of the church of Wijer, hidden in the greenery, lies the glory of the castle of Wijer. The original castle tower with outbuildings is surrounded by a fish-rich pond. The entrance gate is on the opposite side of an arched bridge.

 

Before you enter the massive oak gate, let's not suspect what a cozy home you can expect! The current residents, the Vanhees-Haenen family, bought this estate in 1995 and replaced all the 'disturbing' elements of a less successful modernization. Gyproc walls and suspended ceilings were removed to restore the high ceilings and stately walls. Roofs were completely renovated and insulated. Beautiful materials were selected in consultation with an interior designer who was not ready for his test piece with castle renovations.
