About the Property and Its History

The château’s origins date back to 1233, with its current form largely dating from the mid-15th century when it was established as a fortified farm closely linked to the surrounding vineyards. For centuries, the building served agricultural functions, with its ground floor housing a large wine press.

A major transformation occurred in 1928, when a new Argentinian owner fell in love with the views and converted the wine press into residential space. At that time, the château was carefully restored to provide a comfortable family home without losing its authenticity. The facades were stripped of their roughcast to reveal the original ashlar stonework, and the interiors were enhanced with fine craftsmanship, including a meticulously finished dining room by the renowned Montreux carpenter Albert Held.

Since then, Château de Bochat has remained above all a private family home. Over the last century, five generations have lived within its walls, filling its generous reception rooms and expansive grounds with life. Today, the property combines historic charm with modern possibilities in one of Switzerland’s most sought-after regions.
